The New Chairman

Stockbridge President Dave Webb welcomes new Chairman, Paul Barker to the club

Stockbridge President Dave Webb says “On behalf of the Club I am very pleased to welcome Paul Barker as our new Chairman.  In the short time that he has been with us he has shown real leadership and an incredible amount of energy as he strives to ensure a prosperous future for the Club.  It is very important that we all show the same commitment as Paul and give him our full support”.

New Chairman, Paul Barker, says “It came as a surprise to me to be asked to step in as Chairman of Stockbridge but I was really pleased to be able to get involved. Previous chairman, Trevor Dance, is stepping down to Vice Chairman. However he will still be very much involved in the club.  Like all good leaders, it seems that Trevor had carefully planned his succession and I feel it is a great privilege to be given the opportunity to influence the direction of the club.  The last few weeks have been extremely busy whilst I have been trying to meet everybody and talk to all those connected to the club so that I may understand how each person contributes to the ongoing success of Stockbridge FC.  I apologize to those I have missed so far, however I promise to catch up with you all as the season progresses.

When I was asked if I would stand as chairman, I hesitated for about ten seconds as I considered the size of the commitment I would be undertaking. But then I knew that I wanted to contribute to ongoing success of the club and that it would be a rewarding and satisfying role bringing me into close contact with all the many people who help to maintain the club.

The achievements of the management team, the players, the committee  and those who maintain the ground in raising the status of Stockbridge Football Club to the level it has reached to date has been absolutely magnificent, as has the support of the local community. This is a superb football club run by superb people and together with them and the support of the local community I am sure we can look forward to many more golden days of football in Stockbridge.

New Chairman Paul Barker says

“One of my first priorities on becoming chairman was to meet up with Glenn and Gregg and offer my support. I was immediately impressed with the way they running things and the way they are focussed on the development and needs of all the lads and are not just pushing for results.

I believe a healthy youth section should be the test of any local club such as Stockbridge and is something I want to see grow and develop in the coming years.

Glenn, Gregg and the boys had a successful campaign last year and start this season with a home game v Ludgershall Sports on the 12th September. This year they step up to a full sized pitch and will be playing their home games at Test Valley School. I hope you will join me in offering them support on the touchline as often as you can”.
