Rob Blandford and Fran Mathers have steadied the ship and steered a course into the top 4

Hats off to Manager Rob Blandford, the season started with a narrow defeat against Colden Common and a much heavier loss against Paulsgrove and some might have feared for the worst.
Fran Mathers had joined Rob as Nige Green had some personal matters to attend to and was unavailable. Fran knows some of the players from his work at Downton and even after the Paulsgrove loss was confident that the squad would find a pattern of play which would bring results. The confidence in the squad from Rob and Fran was to be proved right as the team have gone from strength to strength and are unbeaten in the last 6 games.
Sitting in 4th place at the start of October is not what many would have expected after the first 2 games in September. The last 6 games have been not easy – does the Hampshire Premier Football League have any easy games?
2 home wins against Winchester Castle and Sway were hard fought and close affairs, the other 4 games have been away and draws at Fleetlands and Infinity were excellent results where perhaps the performances deserved a little better. Wins at Liss and Chamberlayne with 4 goals scored in each were all the more impressive when you look at previous seasons results at these grounds.
With Nigel now stepping down from his role as Assistant Manager Fran has stepped into the role. Together with Rob they have created a sense of team spirit and togetherness which is clearly visible to the supporters and all at the club.
Next up is Lyndhurst on Wednesday night at the Recreation Ground (7.45pm ko). A win could take to Stockbridge to 2nd the league.
Saturday is an away league cup fixture to QK Southampton, and will be a chance to rest some legs and give opportunities to others.
This week the Robins are please to have signed Jack Hannam, Jack is signed with Amesbury in the Wessex Premier League and has experience at the higher level, he will will a useful addition to the squad which saw Rory Hunter- Brown leave last week to sign for last seasons champions Infinity.
Rory had been close to 100 appearances for the Robins and we wish him well as he recovers from Injury and progresses with Infinty.
Rob and Fran were quick to move to replace Rory and Marcus Savage who was signed from Downton has fitted into the team superbly, he retains the ball well, completes lots of passes and has already scored 2 goals.
Rob is hoping to sign other attacking options in the coming days which will further strengthen the squad and provide some strength in depth.
After the league cup interlude league action returns with 2 tough home games, Bush Hill visit the Recreation Ground on Saturday 17th and on Wednesday 21st its Liphook who are the visitors. Saturday 24th sees the Robins travel to Locks Heath.
Another 3 fixtures against teams inside the top 8, so the lads will have their work cut out to get results against any of these teams, but on current form the teams looks more than capable of continuing its impressive run.
Well done to Rob, Fran and the team for turning a disappointing start into an impressive run of form with some fantastic performances, there’s lots more to come and to look forward to in the weeks and months ahead
Greg Willcox

There is a nice family atmosphere at the club. Why not join us.
